Welcome to Our Lady of Perpetual HelpFour years of service can be a lot of time. However many things happened, a freak storm caused damage in Corrigin where I used to stay. This came as the parish had less than $1000 inside the bank account. For 1 1/2 years I could stay in Hyden and take on some seasonal work to raise funds for the parish.
In the first two months, it turned out the suspended ceiling in the Kulin church was collapsing. Luckily, we were able to claim emergency funding to avoid harm. Throughout this difficult time I continued to work in Hyden. Over time I realised for every dollar I earned I spent two dollars to cover bills for renovations... The Archdiocese covered the extra dollar and now the main focus became the sacraments. We were fortunate to have first reconciliation and first Holy Communion despite Covid. We received incredible support of those parents involved with the sacraments. They were helping together to renovate the Kulin Shrine and reshaped the surroundings of the church. Another challenge has been the former Presbytery, the asbestos started to deteriorate and needed to be replaced. We allocated funds towards the interior renovation of the Kulin house. We hope, it can function as parish office and class room for the children making the sacraments. Often you do not have all the answers how everything can be arranged, most importantly became my personal relationship with God. In John's Gospel we read, we cannot do anything without the help of God. Challenges helped me to relate in new ways to God. In the same way, as Our Lady's mission was to allow God to accomplish everything, so I learned to entrust everything to God. He alone will give us a future and a hope.
